Velvet Underground goes bananas!

VELVET UNDERGROUND: Very Protective of Their Banana

Lou Reed and John Cale, founders of The Velvet Underground, have filed a lawsuit in New York against the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. They are claiming trademark infringement over illegal licensing of the image of the banana that the late artist created for the cover of their 1967 debut album, The Velvet Underground & Nico. He was their manager and producer at the time.

The lawsuit accuses the foundation of seeking to "deceive the public" into believing the band has given their "sponsorship or approval" for the artwork to be used on such products as cases for iPhones and iPads. They are seeking unspecified damages.
