Did you know that Star Wars: The Force Awakens out grossed Avatar in North America—

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now the the top-grossing movie of all-time in North America.

As of January 6th, the blockbuster surpassed Avatar, which earned $760.5 million. The Force Awakens did it in only 20 days, while it took Avatar a year! (including a re-release, to reach its total)

Not yet Globally–

The seventh Star Wars flick still has a ways to go before beating the $2.78 billion earned globally by Avatar. So far, its worldwide total is $1.56 billion. However, no face coverings, face paint or simulated weapons (including lightsabers/blasters) will be allowed in the building.” AMC theaters announced a similar ban on masks and blasters, but will allow lightsabers as long as they’re turned off when the movie starts. Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens December 18th. STAR TREK: New TV Mission Announced for 2017

Posted: Monday 11:08AM Nov. 02, 2015 PT

Star Trek has a new mission planned… for digital TV.

CBS has announced it will launch a “totally new” Star Trek series in 2017 — blasting off with the first episode airing on the CBS Television Network, before subsequent first-run episodes move exclusively to CBS All Access, the network’s digital subscription video on-demand streaming service.

Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote and produced the 2009 and 2013 Star Trek movies, will oversee the series, which promises “new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966.”

If you’re planning on going in costume to see the new Star Wars Film…you can to a point…but no masks, face paint light sabers, purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, non-approved seat cushions, chewing tobacco, bottles or cans, luggage of any kind, lol, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size…the rules differ theater to theater… read on!

GHOSTBUSTERS UPDATE:  Bill Murray to Appear in Reboot

Who you gonna call?!?  Bill Murray still ain’t afraid of no ghosts. The actor will appear in the all female reboot of Ghostbusters. Yay!

Murray,  played Dr. Peter Venkman in the first two movies, has long been resistant to starring in a third film, once saying, “It’s really hard to recreate something that was so beautiful, so wonderful.” His Ghostbusters costar Dan Aykroyd will also make a cameo in the new film.  I’m glad he lightened up and will add his comedic genius to the film.

BTW in case you didn’t know:  Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones are the new poltergeistfighting team. The flick hits theaters next summer on July 22nd, 2016.

Fantastic Four wasn’t so fantastic at the box office. The reboot, which has gotten some of the worst reviews for a superhero flick since Catwoman.  So if your were gonna go and see it wait for DVD.

Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation landed in first for the second straight week with $29.4 million. The Tom Cruise actioner has made $108.7 million in 10 days.

The Jason Bateman thriller The Gift exceeded expectations, earning $12 million in its debut weekend.  This movie should’ve been number #1 C’mon!!!

The Meryl Streep drama Ricki and the Flash opened in seventh with $7 million that I heard is one to go and see in the theatre.

FANTASTIC FOUR (Super Hero / Sci-Fi) – Four young outsiders acquire amazing abilities after a trip to an alternate universe.  Starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell. This film was reportedly made so Fox could keep the film rights to theFantasic Four, which were about to run it.

THE GIFT (Thriller)– Jason Bateman departs comedy for this thriller were a young couple’s lives are thrown into a tailspin when an acquaintance from the husband’s past brings mysterious gifts and a horrifying secret to light after more than 20 years.  Starring Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall, Joel Edgerton

RICKI AND THE FLASH -Guitar heroine Ricki Rendazzo (Meryl Streep) returns home to reconnect with the family she left behind for rock stardom.Starring Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, Mamie Gummer(Meryl Streeps real-life daughter), Sebastian Stan, Rick Springfield.

RONDA ROUSEY: Will Play Herself in Bio-Pic

Posted: Monday 02:28PM Aug. 03, 2015 PT

There’s only one person tough enough to play Ronda Rousey in a bio-pic — and that’s Ronda Rousey.

The UFC champ is set to play herself in a feature-film adaptation of her autobiography, My Fight/Your Fight, which was published in May. This won’t be Rousey’s first round in the acting ring. She’s had small roles inExpendables 3Furious 7 and the Entourage movie.

The news comes only two days after the MMA fighter destroyed Bethe Correia in a bout that lasted just 34 seconds. But the deals didn’t end there. Today (Monday), Rousey was also named the newest spokesperson for Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s. (Variety)

When John Connor (Jason Clarke) sends Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons

Arnold Schwarzenegger says fans can continue impersonating him with a thick Austrian accent, even though he doesn’t actually speak that way.

The veteran action movie star says he’s been in the United States long enough now that he can actually speak without his accent, and without butchering the English language. But he continues to speak with the accent because it’s become his trademark and fans love it. He says, “It’s now become such a big part of me, the accent, that people really enjoy it.” He adds, “It proves that perception has changed. In the 1970s, people were frightened of the German accent. People said it gave them goosebumps. Now I have the most imitated accent. It’s a trademark.”

It’s official! Jurassic World had the biggest opening of all time. With final numbers in, the dinosaur thriller earned $208.8 million in North America,
surpassing The Avengers’ $207.4 million in 2012. Sunday estimates had Jurassic World falling just short of the Marvel flick.
Jurassic World, starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, also had the biggest worldwide opening earning
to $315.3 million overseas. The previous record of $314 million was set by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
in 2011. Is it any wonder?  Chris Pratt is looking so buff for this movie…compared to his Parks and Rec TV show body.

WINNERS & LOSERS AT THE 2014 BOX OFFICE

The box office was down all year. It was first year since 2011 that no movie earned at least $400 million. In fact only Guardians of the Galaxy even reached the $300 million level, though The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 will most likely get there before the year’s out.

Guardians of the Galaxy was easily the year’s biggest hit, earning critical praise and the most cash at the box office. Other movies that exceeded expectations included The LEGO Movie, Maleficent, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, 22 Jump Street and Ride Along.

WOMEN DRIVE THE BOX OFFICE

For the longest time, women have not counted at the box office. Like at all.

Unless it was a Sacchariney-sweet Rom-Com, movie makers couldn’t care less about marketing to women.

But now that both Gone Girl and Annabelle opened strong with women this weekend (over half the audience), studios will be forced to change the way they market their films and might not be so quick to discount half of the entire population next time they’re marketing a blockbuster. (Variety)

David Bowie Is

A documentary film of the groundbreaking David Bowie is exhibition created by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (V&A). Described by The Times as “stylish & outrageous” and The Guardian as “a triumph”, the exhibition features a remarkable collection of photographs, stage costumes, and other rare possessions from the David Bowie Archive. The exhibition was the fastest selling in the V&A’s history and is now on a global tour that has already travelled to Toronto, Sao Paulo, and Berlin to international acclaim, opening next at the MCA in Chicago until January 4 2015.

The film takes the audience on an extraordinary journey through the David Bowie is exhibition with special guests including legendary Japanese fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto, Pulp front-man Jarvis Cocker, and other collaborators, to explore the stories behind some of the key objects that document Bowie’s artistic career. The exhibition curators, Victoria Broackes and Geoffrey Marsh, provide fascinating insight into the most memorable music videos and original costumes, as well as more personal items such as never-before-seen handwritten lyrics, album cover artwork, set designs and diary entries, which reveal the creativity and evolution of Bowie’s ideas.

The documentary was filmed on the closing night of the V&A exhibition in London and directed by Hamish Hamilton., the BAFTA winning director of the Academy Awards and the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

ADAM SANDLER: Most Overpaid Actor

Adam Sandler is a long way from his days as a box office powerhouse, but that’s not stopping studio execs from throwing money at the funnyman. With bombs like Jack & Jill and That’s My Boy, Sandler tops Forbes‘ “Most Overpaid Actors” list of 2013.

According to the magazine, Sandler earns $15 million per movie but delivers only $3.40 for every $1 paid.

Close behind is Katherine Heigl, who returns only $3.50 for every dollar paid.

Rounding out the Top 5 are Reese Witherspoon, Nicolas Cage and Kevin James. Jennifer Aniston came in at number-eight.
