Get a load of this bottle! Ladies & Gentlemen, you are looking at an UNOPENED bottle of Prohibition-era whiskey. How did this come to pass? When my Uncle passed away in May of last year he was the last of 5 brothers still living in the house they grew up in in Fall River, MA. He didn't drink, so after my grandfather died when I was only about 10, it is quite possible the bar in the dining room was NEVER OPENED AGAIN. My Grandfather DID drink so this was where the bottle originally came from. My Father was born in 1930 but was the middle child so my Dad's family was living in this house during Prohibition when the only way you could get booze was with a MEDICAL PRESCRIPTION. My Dad insists that's what this seal denotes. That it was furnished for MEDICINAL purposes. Some evaporation is clearly evident but understandable as the contents are 90+ years old. Strangely enough, the bottle sat in the back of the bar for DECADES until the house was being cleaned out & seeing as my Father is the only surviving brother who still drinks, he volunteered to take the booze from the liquor cabinet. And there it was. I'd heard about the find for months before I finally went home to see it last July which was when I took these pictures. I've been assured I can have it but I either need to drive back to Phoenix with it or somehow ship it. I've been told to possibly wax the top of the bottle like a Maker's Mark bottle but I'm worried about damaging the cork/seal. Their retained integrity is surely part of the bottle's value. Any suggestions for how I can get it out here?
As if the Black Gold weren't enough of an eye-opener, upon wandering around a dirt floor section of my Dad's basement, what should I find standing up in the dirt but this!!!!! An UNOPENED 100-Year-Old bottle of French Bordeaux. Granted, time has gotten the better of the bottle top as some of the foil is shorn away on one side & it appears the cork has disintegrated a bit allowing air to have compromised the bottle. If you tip it upside down some wine will leak out. It is still about 2/3 full. The wine simply tastes like dirty water but I couldn't believe my eyes that I pulled this from it's resting spot IN DIRT IN THE BASEMENT like a movie. I'm also assured I can have this bottle as well but again - HOW DO I GET IT OUT HERE FROM VERMONT without compromising any bottle contents or the delicate foil/remaining cork/label??
Phenominal family heirlooms but I'm not sure the best way to get them out here. Your thoughts?
