King with the Tedeschi Trucks Band LIVE at the Comerica Theater Saturday night, September 1st!! You are probably well-aware of B.B. King's legendary status as a true Blues Journeyman/Ambassador but let me hip you to just who the Tedeschi Trucks Band are. Derek Trucks has been an official member of the Allman Brothers since 1999 which wasn't that much of a stretch seeing as his Uncle Butch helped found the band years earlier. A true prodigy guitar player, Derek began playing slide guitar at age 9 & had his first paid performance by age 11. He has toured extensively with the Allman Brothers & his own Derek Trucks Band as well as getting in tight with guys like Eric Clapton, who recruited him for his 2007 world tour.
His wife Susan Tedeschi is a bonafide artist in her own right, having formed the Susan Tedeschi Band in 1994. She has been credited with sounding like a mix between Janis Joplin & Bonnie Raitt (no surprise given they are her two biggest influences). Her 2000 album Just Won't Burn went gold & she eventually became an opening act for the likes of Buddy Guy, the Allman Brothers, B.B. King, John Mellencamp & Taj Mahal. You can see how their paths crossed. They met in '99 when she was opening for the Allman Brothers & married in 2001. They eventually disbanded their solo bands & have become a veritable powerhouse band together earning a Grammy for Best Blues Album for their 2011 debut Revelator.
