A Kunkletown driver was drunk Sunday night when he made an abrupt left turn toward a Monroe County beverage store's parking lot and was hit by an oncoming vehicle, police said.

John J. Eger, 58, was northbound on Route 209 in the Gilbert section of Polk Township at 6:45 p.m. when he failed to yield and crashed in front of the West End Beverage Party Store, state police at Lehighton said.

Eger's vehicle collided with a southbound vehicle driven by Gregory J. May, of Saylorsburg, police said. Eger's vehicle took the impact on its passenger side.

Eger was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

No one was reported injured.
