Saturday morning, March 15, 2014 the St. Patrick’s Day Parade will pay special tribute to a true hero, which is fitting considering the theme of this year’s parade, “Arizona Irish: Honor Our Heroes.”
On March 3, 2014, the Phoenix Police Department suffered a devastating loss with the death of Detective John Hobbs. In order to pay tribute, the Arizona Law Enforcement Emerald Society has asked all law enforcement agencies across the state to join them as they walk “one last beat” in honor of John. They are expecting upwards of 100 police officers and their families alongside twenty or so law enforcement vehicles to travel south along third street, while wearing special “Hobbs” t-shirts. There also will be an unmarked vehicle to signify John’s last beat.
We humbly ask the public to join us tomorrow to pay respect to all heroes in our valley by coming out to the parade and lining the route. What a fitting way to show the family of Detective Hobbs, those of blood and blue, that we are with them and standing beside them.
A special thank you to the Dunkin’ Donuts at 7th Street and Thunderbird for donating coffee to all the police and their families for tomorrow morning.
