BEATLES, DOORS: Before Billboards Went Digital
An exhibit of legendary Sunset Boulevard billboards will go on display in L.A. in March.
In addition to all the great music that was made, and is still being made, inside the clubs along Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, there were all those over-the-top billboards advertising new albums up and down the strip.
Robert Landau began taking photos of the billboards when he was a teenager in the ’60s, and now more than 20 of those photos will go on display at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles starting on March 24th. Among the artists on display will be The Doors, The Beatles, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd.
The exhibit, based on Landau’s fifth book, Rock ‘n’ Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip, runs through August 16th.
