Jimmy Page says it became apparent during the recording of Led Zeppelin‘s sixth album, which became Physical Graffiti, that it would be a double album.

He tells us, “We were not doing singles or trying to chase a singles market. So that’s why one can say, ‘There’s really long songs on it.’ Yes, some are long but some of short. But it completes the character of what that song or what the intention or even the attitude, what it was all about… It certainly was meant to be a double album…and it comes in as like one of the mothers of all double albums in a way.”

Physical Graffiti was reissued this past Wednesday as part of the ongoing Zeppelin catalog re-mastering campaign.
