YES: No Dice for Band’s Cover Artist
Roger Dean‘s lawsuit against director James Cameron for copyright infringement has been tossed out.
A 2013 lawsuit that artist Roger Dean filed against director James Cameron has been tossed out by a federal judge in New York.
Dean, best known for his Yes album covers, claimed that mountains used in Cameron’s 2009 movie Avatar were inspired by 14 of his paintings. But this week, District Court Judge Jesse M. Furman ruled that the evidence that Dean’s counsel provided, which was from “books about or derived from Avatar” rather than the film itself, was “misguided.”
Dean, who has also done covers for Asia and Moody Blues bassist John Lodge, was seeking $50 million.
