U2: The Edge Goes to School
U2 guitarist The Edge was back in school Wednesday, albeit via video. He spoke to the folks gathered at Tulane University in New Orleans to celebrate the launch of a Music Rising initiative at the school.
Music Rising is the foundation he co-founded with producer Bob Ezrin following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Music Rising at Tulane is a website focusing on the musical cultures of the Gulf South. It contains original content, artist biographies, learning modules and a state-of-the-art music instructional program. The School’s New Orleans Center for the Gulf South is providing lectures and symposiums to scholars and the public.
Music Rising was created to support the restoration and preservation of New Orleans’ unique musical traditions. Since 2005, it’s become a national disaster relief fund for music education and supplied aid to thousands of music students, professional musicians and church members.
