Don Henley has come to the rescue of the North Texas Food Bank.

Henley, who lives in the Dallas area, learned about an auction taking place to raise money for the facility. So he called and arranged to donate an acoustic guitar signed by the Eagles, along with handwritten lyrics to “Desperado,” the title track of the band’s second album, released in 1973.

“I have a great deal of empathy for the difficulties of fundraising; it’s not an easy thing. There’s an incredible amount of competition for the charitable dollar out there and you know, there are an enormous number of worthy causes.”

The sheet of lyrics is not the original manuscript, but what Don did at the end of last month. He also had his attorney craft a Letter of Authenticity.

100 percent of the proceeds from the auction will go to the food bank, which is being overwhelmed by people left in need by COVID-19. Bidding runs through May 13th, culminating with a live auction that begins at 8 p.m. CT that night.

Bidding on the lyrics is closing in on $6000, with the guitar approaching $2000.
