First day sales of the 30th anniversary edition of the Band Aid song, “Do They Know It’s Christmas?,” with proceeds going towards the fight against Ebola, got off to a “manic” and “extraordinary” start says the song’s organizer, Bob Geldof.

Geldof continued, “From what we’ve seen from iTunes it’s gone bonkers. Within four or five minutes we had a million quid (more than $1.5 million).”

The song, featuring Geldof, Bono, Roger Taylor from Queen, Chris Martin from Coldplay and many others, was recorded on Saturday in London in the same studio where the first one was done in 1984.
