Astrophysicist and Queen guitarist Brian May announced on Wednesday at the Asteroid Awareness Press Conference in London that June 30th will be Asteroid Day. The goal of the day is to heighten awareness of the asteroid hazard and our efforts to prevent future impacts.

May says, “The more we learn about asteroid impacts, the clearer it becomes that the human race has been living on borrowed time. We are currently aware of less than one percent of objects comparable to the one that impacted at Tunguska [Siberia on June 30th, 1908], and nobody knows when the next big one will hit. It takes just ONE.”

Numerous events are being planned for the day, including a few performances.
