LYNYRD SKYNYRD: Honored in Atlanta
All-Star tribute show on Wednesday featured Gregg Allman, Peter Frampton, Cheap Trick and many others.
Lynyrd Skynyrd was honored Wednesday night with a tribute concert at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, where the One More From the Road live disc was recorded.
The latest in a series of shows that have honored the likes of Levon Helm, Dr. John and Gregg Allman, Wednesday’s proceedings featured performances by Allman, Warren Haynes and Gov’t Mule, Peter Frampton, Cheap Trick, Al Kooper, Charlie Daniels, John Hiatt and many others. Highlights included Frampton doing “Call Me the Breeze,” Allman on “Tuesday’s Gone” and the all-star finale of “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird.”
The nearly four-hour show will be edited down for a DVD and CD release in the spring. Former Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle was in the audience, but onstage footage that accompanied “Free Bird” has him and other Skynyrd alumni edited out.
