JOHN LENNON: Original Manuscripts to be Auctioned
More than 100 of John Lennon’s manuscripts, including short stories, poem and sketches, will be auctioned by Sotheby’s in New York on June 4th. Mainly created for John’s books In His Own Write and A Spaniard in the Works, they’re expected to go from $500 to $70,000 — the priciest piece being the handwritten manuscript of his Sherlock Holmes parody, “The Singularge Experience of Miss Anne Duffield.”
The items come from the collection of Tom Maschler, who worked for the British company that published John’s non-musical work during the ’60s. He was gifted the items as thanks for helping make the Beatle a best-selling author.
The collection will be displayed at the South by Southwest Festival on March 13th and 14th; at Sotheby’s in London, March 21st through the 25th and at Sotheby’s in New York starting on May 28th.
