Jimi: All Is By My Side, a bio-pic that centers around the year in Jimi Hendrix’s life before he became an international sensation at 1967’s Monterey Pop Festival, opens at 35 theaters in the top 18 markets today (Friday).

Helmed by 12 Years a Slave director John Ridley, with Andre Benjamin — also known as Outkast’s Andre 3000– as Jimi, the picture attempts to capture Hendrix’s emotional core and look at the people who surrounded him as he moved to London and his career took off.
