FOREIGNER: Six of Their Songs Go Gold or Platinum for Digital Sales
Foreigner has just had six of their songs certified gold or platinum for digital sales — that’s more than such rivals as Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, the Eagles and Journey have achieved.
Co-founder Mick Jones was on hand for the ceremony at Atlantic Records’ New York offices along with label executives.
Foreigner’s songs receiving RIAA certification — which honors sales of more than 500,000 downloads (Gold) or one million downloads (Platinum) — include: “Cold As Ice” (Gold), “Feels Like The First Time” (Gold), “Hot Blooded” (Gold), “I Want To Know What Love Is” (Platinum), “Juke Box Hero” (Platinum), and “Waiting For A Girl Like You” (Gold). While the other five were long considered smash hits, “Juke Box Hero” sold poorly when originally released in 1982 — moving just 40,000 45s and falling short of the Top 20. But the renewed interest in the song — thanks in part to Jimmy Fallon lip-synching it recently on The Tonight Show — has pushed it past the one-million mark in downloads.
