EAGLES: Walsh Talks About Quitting Alcohol
Promoting next year’s Australian tour, he recalls when he knew he had to stop drinking for good.
Joe Walsh says a “moment of clarity” 20 years ago is why he’s alive today.
Last week, while promoting the Eagles‘ nine stadium dates in Australia next February and March, Walsh told Triple M radio in Sydney that after the band broke up in 1980, he “really didn’t want to stop [performing].” At that time, he was “alcoholic and had to drink,” and by the early ’90s, following a couple of failed attempts at sobriety, was “crazy” and on a “downward spiral…crashing and burning.” It was then that he had that one clear moment that he believes saved his life. “That’s all I can say,” he concluded.
But Walsh did actually have one more thing to add on the subject: “A lot of my friends didn’t have that moment, and a lot of my friends are gone.”
