BEACH BOYS: Al Jardine Working With Brian Wilson Not Mike Love over Fourth of July
Al Jardine has confirmed on his Facebook page that he’ll be playing with Brian Wilson and not the Mike Love-fronted Beach Boys over the Fourth of July weekend.
Jardine re-posted a story from an Irish paper that says he’ll back Wilson in a July 4th show in Cork, and at Brian’s July 5th show at Britain’s Hop Farm Festival. While Al will be in his featured spot on vocals and guitar, his son Matt will join Wilson’s band as a backing vocalist.
This news runs counter to not only a story that ran in Rolling Stone, but also a press release and a still-posted online ad for the Nikon/Jones Beach Theater on Long Island, New York promoting Jardine’s participation in the Beach Boys show.
David Marks, who toured with Wilson in 2013, says on his Facebook page that he’ll play with the Mike Love branch of rock’s most dysfunctional family on the Jones Beach show. Marks, who lives in the New York area, says it’s as “a one-time special guest.”
