The Who are commemorating their 50th anniversary by giving fans something people five decades ago probably wouldn’t have even believed possible —  a free app for smartphone, tablet and desktop.

In a statement, singer Roger Daltrey revealed that he’s “not a fan of smartphones,” but admitted that “they do open up huge possibilities to entertain and educate.” The Who Immersive App will enable fans to explore rare and unseen images, artwork and artifacts from the past half century.

Daltrey says he feels “the music business needs to use every avenue possible to keep the fans and the music in close contact.” He hopes the app will “teach our newer, younger fans everything they might want to know about our history, and hopefully unearth some odds and sods for our older ones.”
