The fifth anniversary of his death to be commemorated by his Cancer Fund in May, the “fictional comedy” opens Down Under in March.
A series of events celebrating the life and music of the late Ronnie James Dio are planned for Los Angeles on the fifth anniversary of his death.
All the activities will take place between May 15th and 17th to benefit the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund. They include:
- A Rock & Bowl Celebrity Charity Event at Pinz Bowling Center in Studio City on the 15th.
- A free public Memorial Service at Forest Lawn Cemetery Hollywood Hills on the 16th, which will include speeches and performances by some of Ronnie’s former bandmates.
- The inaugural Ride for Ronnie motorcycle ride from Glendale Harley Davidson to Los Encinos Park for a barbecue, raffle, silent auction and live music on the 17th.

In other Dio news, Ronnie will be the subject of what’s being touted as the first-ever metal musical. The Legend Of Dio: A Metal Musical features songs he sang in Dio, Black Sabbath and Rainbow. Described as “a fictional comedy” and compared to Tenacious D, the show will have its world premiere at The Corner Hotel in Richmond, Victoria, Australia on March 6th. Members of Aussie bands Barbarion, H.M.A.S. Vendetta and Horizons Edge play the main roles of Satan, Ronnie and Wendy Dio.
