His son has graduated, but John Fogerty can’t seem to stay away from the University of Southern California.

This past May, John gave the commencement speech at the USC Thornton School of Music’s 2014 graduation ceremony, and also gave his son Shane his diploma. Shane is now a member of his dad’s band. And this past Friday, Fogerty was back at USC to pick up the Thornton Legacy Award for his contributions to the music industry. He also awarded the John Fogerty Scholarship to a student to continue his education in music.

On Saturday, Fogerty headed over to the Troubadour in West Hollywood, where he joined Mike Campbell, guitarist in Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, for his third annual Merry Minstrel Musical Circus: A Holiday Gathering and Goodwill Jamathon. He played “Proud Mary,” and among those on stage with him were Campbell, Jackson Browne and Conor Oberst from Bright Eyes. All proceeds from the concert will benefit music education in the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Tazzy Animal Rescue Fund.
