ELTON JOHN: Partner David Says They’ll Marry in May
David Furnish says he and Elton John plan to marry this May. He tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal, “We don’t feel the need to take an extra step legally. But since we’re committed for life, we feel it’s really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example.”
Unlike the celebration of their civil union, which featured a lavish party for hundreds of guests, David and Elton plan something far simpler when they joined the ranks of the married. With gay marriage now legal in Britain, the couple will have a small ceremony at a Registry Office with their sons on hand, along with just a couple of witnesses.
Furnish tells Britain’s Attitude magazine, “When [our sons] Zachary and Elijah are grown up and having children of their own, they will — hopefully — be living in a world where everyone can be equal, when being married isn’t about whether you’re straight or gay, but simply about being human.”
